Creating A "Sales" Site!
One
of the initial concerns for people who want to make money online is
how to get traffic to their website.
Simple. You buy traffic from Pay Per Click Search
Engines, you sign up for "viral" traffic exchanges,
you sign up for banner exchanges, you submit to the search
engines.
Ahh. Finally, some traffic arrives.
But they don't buy anything.
Shock. Horror.
You're paying good money to your webhost, to the
Pay Per Click Search Engines and perhaps to other
services.
You've got bills to pay. That traffic *has* to buy from you!
So where are you going wrong?
Let's see...
1: Expectations. If you think a lot of your visitors are going to
buy from you, forget it. I think I read
that the average website converts about 1% of visitors into
customers. So you need to be realistic.
If 1% of your visitors are buying from you, be happy, not sad. Try
to increase that percentage by testing
changes to sales copy, colours, everything!
2: Bad Traffic. Where's your traffic coming from? Some sources
(freebie hunters, visitors from traffic
exchange programs and even visitors from Pay Per Click Search
Engines) are not likely to buy from you.
So...
3: Decide who your product is aimed at... your target market and try
to get *those* people to visit. You may
not generate as much traffic, but if it's very well targetted,
you'll make many more sales.
4: Get pre-warmed traffic. People who don't know you are not likely
to buy from you. People who have been
introduced to you and your products (via a recommendation from
someone they trust) ARE likely to buy from
you.
Look for people with lists of subscribers who are likely to be
interested in your products
or services. If the list owner sends their lists a
recommendation, you'll make lots of sales very quickly!
5: Make sure your *page* sells. Have black text on a white
background. Don't link out of your sales
page to other sites. Don't have anything fancy... just tell the
visitor what you offer and how it will
help THEM. Have testimonials.
6: Try to capture your visitors name and email
address to contact them later. Some people may not be
receptive to buying immediately, but may return later... if
you send them a follow-up reminder. If you
don't capture that email address, you'll never have a second chance
to contact them.
